Wheelchair accessible

Disability Transport Services

Some trips do not work in an ordinary car. If you use a wheelchair or a scooter, getting out of it and back in at the other end can be the hardest part of the day, and for some people it is not possible at all. This is a van you board in your own chair. You stay in it for the whole trip, and it is secured before we move. We take people to appointments, day programs, activities and family visits across Melbourne's northern suburbs.

What's included

  • A van you board in your own wheelchair or scooter
  • Your chair secured before the vehicle moves
  • Lifts to appointments, day programs, activities and family visits
  • Help from your front door to the van, and at the other end
  • Room for someone to travel with you
  • Trips lined up with your other supports, so the day flows

Who it's for

People who use a wheelchair or scooter and cannot transfer into a car seat, or for whom transferring twice in a day is too much.

Questions about wheelchair transport

No. That is the point of this support. You board in your chair, stay in it for the trip, and it is secured before we set off. Nobody has to lift you into a car seat and back out again.

Transport is lifts in an ordinary car, and it also covers learning to use buses and trains on your own. This is the wheelchair accessible van. If you can transfer into a car seat comfortably, Transport is usually the better fit. If you cannot, or would rather not, this is the one you want. Ring us and we will work out which applies before anything is agreed.

Most people get a set amount paid into their bank account regularly, at one of three levels, depending on how much you work, study or get out. Some people have transport paid from their Core Supports instead. We check which one applies to you before we start.
